Launching of iShadchan

To all our friends:

B"H we all have families and busy lives to keep us occupied. Unfortunately we also all have friends that would love to be in our position but are yet to find "the right one."

Every now and then we remember our friends and try to think of someone for them. Sometimes we really don't know anyone their type and sometimes it's just not the right time to pick up the phone and start making phone calls. Either way, they remain single.

We all spend at least ten minutes a day (if not more) in front of our computers just surfing and looking for things to do (matzav, onlysimchas, YWN, back to matzav, facebook, email, gap, back to YWN etc.). We would like to offer you something to do that we are sure you won't feel like you've wasted your time.

The idea we thought of  really doesn't take much time and effort and if taken seriously, we believe has a lot of potential - iShadchan.

iShadchan is a website which has links to various spreadsheets. On these  spreadsheets there are the initials of eligible boys and girls, along with their basic information. (You can see an example spreadsheet on the site.) These spreadsheets are not available for everyone to see, but only to the people who have an iShadchan account.*

The point of iShadchan is not to have one list of hundreds of names but rather to have many small lists shared by different groups of friends. The reason for that is, if you have one list with hundreds of names it may seem too overwhelming and you'll give up on making a shidduch.

The question you may have is how will you get to know more people other than the same names you have on your spreadsheet, if the lists are kept to a limit? The answer; once you start a spreadsheet with a group of friends, you gain access to all other spreadsheets on the site, and the creators of those spreadsheets get access to yours!

How many times have we said to ourselves after a friend gets engaged "I should have thought of that!" You don't need to know the whole world to make a shidduch!

Starting Your Own iShadchan

When you decide to start your own iShadchan here is what to do:
  • email me at ishadchan@gmail.com saying you want to start an iShadchan group
  • along with the email send me a list of  5 to 10 married friends' email addresses so that i can send them the spreadsheet. Rather keep the group small and start a few separate spreadsheets than to have one spreadsheet sent to all your contacts (you can always add a friend later, just send me their email address)
  • you can add the same name to separate spreadsheets, being that it is shared with different people
  • tell your married friends to visit iShadchan.blogspot.com so that they can read about it, and know what to do when they receive the link
  • i will then send you the spreadsheet that you can add names to*
  • once you have added names i will send your iShadchan spreadsheet to you friends
  • only add the names of single people you know (i.e. you can acquire their resume if needed)
  • when you add a name, it automatically updates everyone else's spreadsheet (make sure to save changes)
  • please make sure to look at the Example Spreadsheet further down this page, so that you fill it out correctly
  • i will also post a link to the spreadsheet on this website allowing other people to only view the names
  • when you receive an iShadchan spreadsheet link do not forward it to other people, just add your single friends to it

* If you do not have a gmail account, you have to create one in order to have full access to the spreadsheet (i.e. adding names). You can use any existing email address to set it up. It does not have to be an @gmail account. Please click on this link to set up your account now. https://www.google.com/accounts/NewAccount?continue=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.google.co.il%2F&hl=en
